2010 Annual Conference of the USA Branch of the International Fiscal Association
Invitation Accompanying persons should be very excited about the two trips. The first is a unique opportunity to have a private tour of the Barnes Foundation in its original and current location in Merion, PA. The Foundation is home to one of the world's largest collections of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings, with extensive holdings by Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne, Renoir and Modigliani, as well as important examples of African sculpture. This is one of the last opportunities to view the exhibit in its historic home, as it moves to Philadelphia next year. On Friday, the accompanying persons will visit the National Constitution Center in historic Philadelphia. The Center is America's most interactive history museum. Located just two blocks from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, it is the only museum devoted to the U.S. Constitution and the story of we, the people. There will be a guided tour of the “We, the People” exhibit and an audio tour of the special exhibit "Ancient Rome and America," a 6,000 square foot exhibition that will feature over 300 artifacts from Rome's Republican and Imperial periods. Following the visit to the National Constitution Center, the group will have lunch at the City Tavern, one of the oldest continuously working taverns in the America. The Westin Hotel is 20 minutes by cab from Philadelphia Airport ($31.00 flat rate before tip), and 10 minutes from Amtrak 30th Street Station. It's part of Liberty Place, which is a lovely indoor shopping area. The hotel is very close to the shops and restaurants of Walnut St. Consider staying in Philadelphia for the weekend! If you’d like suggestions for a restaurant on Friday night, let me know. On Saturday consider attending the new Picasso exhibit in the Philadelphia Art Museum – tickets are now on sale. We hope to have a full house at the conference, and look forward to seeing you there. Joan C. Arnold, Esquire Westin Philadelphia Hotel
